Kolya Mazanovich, aged 10, is spending time in Somerset having arrived from Belarus with the Chernobyl Child Charity.
Residing with the Farrant family in Yeovil, Town supporter Dan Farrant brought Kolya’s story to the attention of our main sponsor, Jones Building Group. As a result, Mark Porter contacted the club to see what we could do.
Keen to give Kolya a day to remember, the Belarusian was made mascot for the clash against the Valiants, being kitted out with a replica kit complete with ‘Kolya 10’ on the reverse.
Meeting Darren Way and his first-team players as well as leading the team out, the Belarusian took in his first experience of a live football match.
Having never seen the sea before arriving in the UK and never having owned a computer or games console, Kolya was delighted to contact his parents on Saturday night to share his experience with the Glovers.
With Belarus the most affected country by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the charity supports children growing up in the country.
All at Yeovil Town were honoured to meet Kolya and hope to see him at Huish Park in the future.
