Yeovil Town Ladies have signed Welsh International Nicola Cousins** to strengthen squad in preparation for second half of the FA WSL2 Season.
25 year old Cousins, who joins the Glovers from FA Women’s Premier League side Cardiff City Ladies, is a versatile defender that can play anywhere across the back four. This is Cousins’ first move in the UK away from Cardiff City Ladies, having grown up playing for the club. Undoubtedly, this makes it a huge move for Cousins.
“I am thrilled to have signed for Yeovil for the second part of the WSL2 season. I have watched their progress after the last 12 months and they have a great structure in place with some quality players” said Cousins.
She knows that the FA WSL will pose new challenges, but is not overwhelmed by this. “I am excited for this new challenge and cannot wait to start playing”.
First Team Manager Sarah Lawler commented; “I am pleased to introduce into the squad a credible player who really wants to be challenged and join the great squad we have here”
“Nicola can play anywhere across the back line and will fit in well to the squad. After chatting with her this week, it is clear that she is willing to work really hard for the club and understands what the club is trying to achieve”.
Cousins is the club’s second signing from Cardiff City Ladies for the 2014 season, after midfielder Paige Strewart joined earlier on in the year.
Yeovil Town Ladies Chairman commented; “It is fantastic to have Nicola at the club as she brings an extra dimension to our team and also is a highly regarded international standard player”.
“I am confident she will fit right in to our set up and quickly become a very valuable team member.”
Cousins is also currently competing in the World Cup Qualifiers with Wales, along with fellow Yeovil Town Ladies teammates Helen Bleazard and Alice Evans.
The Glovers season re-starts on 28th June when the ladies take on a strong Sunderland side away from home. The first home game, back at the Jones Stadium, Sherborne Town FC, will be on Saturday 12th July against FA WSL 1 side Notts County at 5pm in the Continental Cup. Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2.50 for concessions, you can pay on the day or purchase online by visiting www.yeoviltownladies.com/tickets.
