Yeovil Town have earned themselves a chance to collect some pre-Christmas silverware after being nominated for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Team of the Round prize.
Paul Sturrock’s side have been shortlisted for the award after shocking Sky Bet League 1 high-flyers Gillingham in the Area Quarter-Finals. Yeovil held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 5-4 after the tie had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, Harry Cornick grabbing the all-important goal for the Somerset club.
Millwall and Morecambe have also been nominated for the Team of the Round award in what is Johnstone’s Paint’s tenth season of sponsoring the Football League Trophy.
The winning team is set to be selected by a panel of judges over the coming days and will receive a supply of Johnstone’s Paint to utilise on a club project, as well as a trophy.
Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager for Johnstone’s Trade, said: “It was a fantastic performance from Yeovil to knock out a Gillingham side doing extremely well in Sky Bet League 1, especially as it was away from home.
“Yeovil, Millwall and Morecambe all produced results worthy of winning the Team of the Round award and the judges will have a very difficult decision deciding on one winner.”
Millwall’s nomination came on the back of an eight-goal thriller at Sky Bet League 2 leaders Plymouth Argyle. A Lee Gregory hat-trick paved the way for a 5-3 triumph for the Lions, with Mark Beevers and Aiden O’Brien also on target for the visitors.
Morecambe were another team to win on the road against higher-ranked opposition, Paul Mullin’s first half strike enough to seal a 1-0 triumph at Rochdale.
Johnstone’s Paint has been bringing colour to the beautiful game since it began sponsoring the Football League Trophy in 2006.
