The Glovers cruised to a 3-0 victory over their nine-man counterparts, courtesy of goals from Lewis Wing, Rhys Browne and Jake Gray.
It was Town’s first three points in the league in 2018 and Way was especially happy with the display following the tough Emirates FA Cup encounter with Manchester United.
“The way we dominated the game against an experienced Grimsby team was incredible,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“We know how difficult it can be to play against less men on the field. The players had to be patient, calm and keep moving the ball and overall that was a well worked performance and certainly helps us climb that table.
“I’m very pleased with the performance; one or two individuals did very well.
“(Alefe) Santos came in and I was very pleased with his performance; the execution of some of his long range passes were up there. He hit one ball in the first half from one side of the pitch to the other which was almost pinpoint.
“Rhys has worked extremely hard with the physio and he’s scored against his old club. You’re always trying to prove people wrong and he’s gone and done that.”
Way added: “We’ve got strength in depth and that was a big game tonight especially after the Lord Mayor’s show against Manchester United.
“The players responded really well; we were all going to be judged on this result so to put on that performance was pleasing.”
