The 20-year-old was revealed as Darren Way’s fourth January signing earlier this week after spending the first half of the season at League One outfit Coventry City.
However, prior to joining the Sky Blues on loan, the striker featured for West Brom Under-23s in their Checkatrade Trophy clash with Millwall at the Hawthorns back in August which has been designated as a first team game by the EFL.
Consequently, Wright has been recalled by the Baggies with league rules stipulating a player cannot feature for a third team in one season.
Albion’s Director of Football Administration Richard Garlick said he was disappointed with the EFL’s ruling which left the Premier League club with no option but to cancel Wright’s loan.
“It’s a great shame because it would have been another excellent development opportunity for Andre,” said Garlick.
“At the time of Andre’s Checkatrade Trophy appearance, the rules were unclear regarding whether this was designated a first team or Under-23 match. We had not had the approach from Coventry at that point.
“We have checked with the Premier League and they have confirmed the EFL’s interpretation of the rules.”
Yeovil Town are disappointed to miss out on the opportunity to work with Wright but wish him all the best for the remainder of the season.
