The Glovers are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league, last losing a fixture on October 1st at the hands of high-flying Plymouth Argyle.
After netting a last-minute equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Stevenage three weeks ago, the Bournemouth loanee insisted the side were gunning for the play-offs.
Now, with a win on Saturday guaranteeing a top seven spot, Whitfield feels his comments will be justified.
Speaking to YTFC’s official YouTube channel, Whitfield said: "There was a lot of pressure on me after saying that, but if we win this weekend we’ll be in there and I’ll be proven right in what I said.
"The lads have put in some great performances recently. We’ve been brilliant in the league and are actually playing well which is a good thing.
"The only criticism is in the in the final third. We need to work on that and score a few more goals, hopefully we can prove that on Saturday."
After last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley, the Town squad have had a full week in training, with the 20-year-old quick to point out the areas Way’s side have been working on.
“We’ve worked on literally everything in the final third,” said Whitfield.
“Shooting, crossing, heading; everything we need to score goals because that’s how you win football games.
“If we do that, we’ll be in the play-offs.”
