After Matty Dolan’s penalty cancelled out Padraig Amond’s opener, Way directed all players to the away end at full-time where each member of the first-team squad shook hands and thanked the 97 travelling supporters at Victoria Park.
The gesture followed on from the Club joining forces with the Green and Whites Supporters Club and Ridlers Coaches in providing reduced travel costs to County Durham.
Speaking to YTFC’s official YouTube channel after the game, Way was complimentary of his players and the fans.
“This group of players are hungry and keep driving me every day.
“At full-time we went over and shook the supporters hands, and I think it was a nice touch from the Club to pay towards their travel.
“It feels like we’re getting the unity together again, and next year we can build again because we want to reach the dizzy heights of the play-offs.”
Having travelled 330 miles to Hartlepool Way was pleased with his side’s performance, who now make it three games unbeaten away from home.
“The players make me feel proud to come in and work every day.
“We have a big game on Tuesday now though, so preparation begins now and all I can think about is a great game in the quarter-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy.”
