Yeovil Town manager Darren Way is looking forward to a week on the training field ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash against Hartlepool United at Huish Park.
The Glovers lost 3-0 at the hands of Blackpool last weekend after a month that saw the squad accumulate over 1,500 miles of travelling and complete eight games.
Despite a frantic August, the Gaffer was reluctant to use it as a reason for Town’s defeat last Saturday.
He said: “It’s important we don’t use any excuses, I’m certainly not going to use any – I never have done and never will. I will always own up if I’ve made mistakes.
“At times (against Blackpool) it was too easy to play the ball to Tom Eaves or Izale McLeod, but we didn’t hold it up, we rushed passes and we didn’t take responsibility.”
The week leading up to the match against Hartlepool this coming Saturday represents the first time Way and his coaching staff will benefit from a full-week on the training ground without the complication of a mid-week match or journey in preparation for a fixture.
Speaking after the match against the Seasiders, Way was eager to put things right in training this week.
“It’s important we do get on the training ground; quickly and early. I’m responsible as manager if the team play like they did against Blackpool, I have to stand up and be counted for.
“One thing I will do as manager of this Football Club is stand up and be counter for.”
After a mixed August which saw the Glovers pick up three points on the opening day, knock-out League One outfit Walsall in the EFL Cup and face Everton in Round Two of the same competition, Way is determined to get back to winning ways in Sky Bet League Two.
“It’s only early on, and the players have a chance to respond,” he said.
“I wanted to see that (against Blackpool) but it never happened. Now we face Hartlepool and we’ve got to make sure we play with belief, hunger and desire – that’s how my teams play.
“We’ll do everything we can in training to make sure we’re organised and come back fighting.”
