The Glovers surrendered their two game winning run with a 1-0 loss at the Abbey Stadium thanks to Mark Roberts’ second half effort.
Having come into the game off the back of an emphatic 4-2 victory against Cheltenham Town, Way was disappointed with the nature of the performance in Cambridgeshire.
“All over the pitch they (Cambridge) were more dominant and aggressive. It meant more to the opposition than us and they put is under pressure from start to finish.
“They’re physical, get crosses into the box and we gave away a large number of set-plays. We didn’t compete well enough.”
The U’s were buoyed by their first win of the season away to Newport County last weekend and stifled Town’s attacking potency, with the Glovers failing to score for the first time in four matches.
Town face a trip to Plymouth Argyle this Saturday with Way hoping for more combativeness from his young squad.
“Cambridge were aggressive and I keep saying it because it meant more to them than us, but it’s important this group remain strong.
“Every time we made a clearance they won the second ball, recycled it and put it back into the box – you need to compete and be physical – that’s what you need in a League Two match away from home at somewhere like Cambridge.
“Plymouth are a good team, but every game offers different problems at League Two level. This group will learn quickly.”
