The 38-year-old defender has missed the Glovers’ last three matches after aggravating an old knee injury.
“We still have problems with Darren,” Way said.
“There’s still a little bit of inflammation and we want to make sure we manage him well.
“It’s important he makes the decision about when he’s fit and available because I know Darren Ward playing on a Saturday is important to the team.”
Town are already without midfielder Matty Dolan (hamstring) for the visit of Barnet.
However, Way trusts any member of his squad to come in and make a difference.
He said: “Every player who has stepped in for any player, whether it be for Matty Dolan or Darren Ward, is given responsibility and it’s up to them to take it.
“So far they’ve taken that responsibility so there’s been no worry from me.”
