Yeovil Town Manager Gary Johnson has clarified the oncoming trials of Billy Texeira and Mykel Beckley who will be coming to Huish Park at the start of the season, following the recent Budweiser Open Trials at Wembley.
Johnson said: “One of my staff, Stuart Housley, was at the trials, and he asked me to take a look at them.
“I agreed for them to come down and join us at training at the start of the season.”
Speaking to the Brentwood Gazette, Billy Texeira said:
"
When they told me I’d be going to Brazil I was gobsmacked. I first got into football during the 1994 World Cup and I remember thinking I’d love to go. But I would have had to have saved up for 40 years to get to a World Cup and I’m not that good at saving.
"It would never happen if it wasn’t for this. We’re taking it seriously. We’re only going to get one shot of playing at this tournament and we all want to come back as world champions."
"
Yeovil wanted me to go down at the beginning of July but Budweiser told them I couldn’t go because I’ll be in Brazil, so it’ll be the week after.
"It’s got me starting to train harder and I’m making sure my diet is a bit better leading up to Brazil. We’re going to go down there, me and another guy, and we’ll be doing training and playing in a match I expect."
"
I’d heard rumours of Conference clubs, League One clubs and even a Championship club being interested in people, but I never thought it’d be me. They (Budweiser) told me Yeovil wanted to take me on a trial during pre-season.
It’s just amazing, I thought they were winding me up at first. I’m just looking at it like another trial, like the ones I went through to get to St George’s Park and to Wembley. I’ve got to get on with it and hope for the best.
"I thought the scouts would be there just for the TV cameras and make it a bit more interesting. I never thought that I’d get picked up. I’m definitely taking it very seriously."
