The Glovers have come away empty-handed from their last five league trips to Brunton Park, with two coming under the tenure of Way.

Reduced to 10-men last season following Bevis Mugabi’s dismissal the green and whites slumped to a 4-0 defeat, following from the narrow 2-1 loss the year previous in 2016/17.

However, after picking up a first-ever league win at Grimsby at the start of last month, Town’s boss is looking for more history to be made up north. 

“I’ve not been up there too often and gained a result,” he told iFollow Glovers.

“We went to Grimsby and changed history and I want this to be one of the places where I as a manager change history and I want that to be a real focus with our performance.

“Our first part of preparation though is making sure we’re looking after our supporters. As a club we sat down and spoke about what we could give supporters back.

“What we’ll give them is a voucher that they’ve had before for a pie and a pint. It’s going to be important that we appreciate their effort.”

Town have the opportunity to leapfrog their opponents with a win on Saturday, sitting just one place and two points behind the Cumbrians. 

Aware of their threats, Way is calling on his players to focus on their own performance.

“They’ve got some good players – they’ve always had a good team – and I feel their board would want a top six finish with their budget.

“With our travel, it’s important the players don’t use any excuses and they’ll be in for a good test. Carlisle drew 2-2 with Lincoln and had some good chances.

“They look to stretch play and have got some really good players with some really good threats, but I always say to this group this year that a lot of it is to do with what we do.”
