Picking up all three points for the first time this season after a string of fine performances, an Alex Fisher hat-trick and Yoann Arquin header saw off the Magpies in Nottingham.
Performances have been encouraging from the green and whites who already had a point on the board following the 2-2 draw with Mansfield last weekend.
Fulfilling their suggested potential in Nottinghamshire, Way believes there’s still more to come.
“The team is still growing,” he told iFollow Glovers. “We brought in 10 new players and it’s taken time but we’ve worked on passages of play and we’re playing a little bit different now.
“We’re going in right direction but we have to keep our feet on the floor and stay humble but this win will prove some of the doubters wrong.
“I know teams can keep saying they had an off day but no disrespect, we blitzed them and every team can’t keep saying they had an off day.
“We’ve got some fantastic players and we’re creating a little bit of a storm at the moment.”
A Fisher brace but Town in the driving seat at half-time before the number nine completed his hat-trick after the break.
Notts County then missed a penalty before Arquin added a fourth late on to round off the win.
Losing the same fixture 4-1 last season, Town’s boss can see a clear difference in his newly assembled squad.
“I feel the difference in this group is that when we had to deal with 10 minutes of pressure, we saw it out.
“With all the players we’ve brought to the football club, we’re going in the right direction and most of the players are ours so it’s good news.
“It’s taken a long time to play the way I want to play with players coming and going but the owner and chairman need a special mention because they’ve given me that little bit extra this season and you can see that.”
