The Glovers sit just above the relegation zone following a run of six straight defeats but return home for the first of back-to-back fixtures at Huish Park.
Clashes with the U’s and Morecambe – two sides within touching distance of the green and whites – have been highlighted by Town’s boss as ‘very important’ to claim three points from.
With the clash with Colin Calderwood’s Cambridge coming a few days after the club announced Feliciana EFL Ltd had agreed to takeover the club, Way is ready to round the week off with a positive.
“These are games where we’ve got to win,” he told iFollow Glovers. “I don’t feel anyone has really been performing at a level where they deserve to be in the team.
“But I asked them to train as they play and I’ve seen that this week, so we’ve got to put that into 90 plus minutes so the supporters can get behind us. With the news this week, hopefully we’ll see a change in the environment.
“Body language has let us down,” he added. “A prime example is going a goal down – heads drop, players don’t run as quick, they don’t concentrate and they don’t have the laser focus we talk about when we go 1-0 up.
“When we go 1-0 up we’ve not lost a game and that’s important. From the time they arrive to the time the whistle goes we want really good body language, confidence and energy.”
The Glovers will lineup against a Cambridge side off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Cheltenham in midweek.
Having watched the U’s in action in Gloucestershire, Way is anticipating a different approach in Somerset.
“They played a different shape – 4-3-3 – against Cheltenham and played one or two of the loan players they’ve got. I think they’ll probably revert back to 4-4-2 or 4-2-4 and be very attacking.
“They leave four up front at times and we have to make sure we deal that pace, hit them on the counter-attack and make sure we’re aggressive in the final third.
“We have to be decisive, clinical and get the first goal.”
