Yeovil Town manager Darren Way says that he was disappointed that the season ended with defeat against Leyton Orient after the successful fight against relegation.
A late goal from Orient striker Ollie Palmer gave the O’s all three points despite Town dominating most of the game, something that frustrated Way.
But the Yeovil boss admits that he is looking forward to a summer of planning for the 2016/17 campaign after guiding the club to safety in his first experience as a manager in senior football.
After the fans gave the squad and coaching staff a great send-off for the summer and the Player of the Season awards were handed out, Way explained “It’s nice for the fans to stay behind and thank us.
“I hate losing, but I also have to be strong enough as a man to thank the players for what they’ve achieved in a short space of time, it’s been incredible.
Despite securing their League Two status for next season, the Town boss was quick to point out that the players were still fighting to get above the 50-point mark.
“They wanted to go away with a win,” Way said.
“I thought we were disappointing in the final third where we’re lacking; we can’t have that much possession and they have one or two chances and end up losing.
“There’s no two ways about it, we dominated them. It must have been 60-40 in terms of possession, but if there was a reason for it to happen today, I have learned a lot as I always do.”
With the team keeping eleven clean sheets since Way over as manager , the boss is looking for attacking reinforcements over the summer.
“We know as far as who we want, it’s just whether we get them soon or we have to wait,” Way explained.
“All I know is I have been given a lot of help; people talk about loans, Connor Roberts has scooped a lot of the awards and has given everything to this football club. Because of that, I’m not ruling out a top quality loan.
“Next week is a big week. I’ll sit down with the board, we’ll come to a plan and address what we have got and what we need to keep.”
With the season over, the manager now has time to reflect on a successful first few months in charge of the club that he represented for most of his playing career.
Way concluded, “It gives me a lot to work with over the summer, but it’s important the players reflect on this season.
“At one stage, everyone thought this club was dead. What you see today and last week shows it’s alive again.
“It makes me incredibly happy.”
