Yeovil Town’s Darren Way was happy after his side came from 2-0 down to grab a vital point at home to fellow strugglers Barnet.
The visit of the Bees to Huish Park was seen as a vital game in League Two in the battle against the drop, and the Green Army were stung by two Aaron McLean goals in the first half.
But despite needing to get back on level terms as late as the 79th minute, Francois Zoko was the hero as his first two goals for Yeovil in the final ten minutes of the game to earn Way his first point as manager at Huish Park.
And the boss was delighted with the comeback, and explained to Glovers Player that fighting spirit is what is needed for the team to beat the drop.
“It was fantastic, I thought it was entertaining football. I thought the environment was excellent to be in, and is exactly what we need this year to make sure we complete that objective of staying in this league,” said Way.
“Anyone who thinks they can turn up at Yeovil Town Football Club in the position that I’ve taken over in and it’s going to be easy: no chance. Every team is fighting for points and every point matters, and that fighting spirit will keep us up.”
After making 274 appearances in the Green and White as a player, Way was determined to get his first three points for Yeovil as a manager.
But whilst that did not come against Barnet, Way was adamant that the draw against the Bees will be an incredibly important result come the end of the season.
“I know the supporters wanted that win, I wanted that win, but sometimes in life you don’t get everything you want,” he explained.
“It may be small marginal gains but we have to make sure we keep fighting for it this year because there’s so much to play for.”
Way reserved special praise for Zoko after the striker vital contribution, but admitted that the staff are doing things differently with the Ivorian.
“He done a different warmup to the players the other day (against Oxford)” explained the Glovers boss, “as we were looking at the heart rate monitors and the readings from the other first team players like Darren Ward who really look after themselves.
“It was completely different readings. We’re trying to do everything we can to get him fit as quickly as possible and he showed today what quality he has got, so we’re really pleased with Francois.”
The 36 year-old is unsure how long his stint as temporary Yeovil manager will last… but delivered a warning that whoever wants the job will need to fight him for it!
Way said “I’ve been looking forward to every minute, every second of this job, I love it. If there is someone out there, and I’m sure there is someone who wants this job, they’ll need to have a good scrap with me to get me out this office now!
