The AFC Bournemouth loanee won and converted a penalty very early on in the contest – his first notch since New Year’s Day.
The young forward now has eight for the campaign and is relishing the opportunity to add more to his tally as well as continue to gain vital experience for the rest of the season.
He told iFollow Glovers: “I think it was my 42nd game (against Barnet) and that’s what I came here for; I came here to play games and score goals.
“It was a good touch (to win the spot-kick), I felt the contact and he brought me down. I was happy to get the goal as I’ve had a bit of a drought and I just want to kick on now.
“My target at the start of the season was 15 goals and we’ve still got quite a few games left; I’m ambitious so I think I can do that.
“I want to step up to the mark and finish the season strongly.”
Surridge’s goal from 12 yards came after just two minutes before Francois Zoko sealed victory in stoppage time.
It was Town’s third home league win in a row and Surridge feels it was a game that earlier on in the term they may have let slip.
He said: “We said before the game we wanted to get an early goal because we knew it would ease the nerves.
“We knew it was going to be a physical contest as they’re fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.
“They responded quite well to be fair to them but we knew had to stay compact, not concede and eventually we got another goal.
“We’re a young group and we’re still learning. At the start of the season we were losing those types of games so it shows how far we’ve come.”
