Sky Bet League 1 – Weekend Betting Preview

Bristol City v Rochdale
Sky Bet League 1 leaders Bristol City are odds-on favourites with Sky Bet at 8/11 to defeat Rochdale on Saturday. Dale can be supported at 18/5 for the three points while the draw is priced up at 11/4. Rochdale are 13th and have fallen away of late but a win could keep up their play-off ambitions, as they are one of 12 teams realistically fighting it out for sixth. Aden Flint has netted in two of Bristol City’s last three games and the defender is 12/1 to open the scoring. The first goalscorer betting is headed by Robins striker Matt Smith at 4/1 and Ian Henderson is the top Rochdale contender at 7/1.

Top Tip: Exactly three match goals at 3/1

Chesterfield v Fleetwood Town
Chesterfield have lost four matches in a row and are 21/20 to stop the rot with victory over Fleetwood. The Cod Army have only lost once in their last four and are priced up at 13/5 while the draw is 23/10. Seven of Fleetwood’s last eight away fixtures have seen under 2.5 goals whereas in the Spireites’ last eight home matches only two have contained under 2.5 goals. The reverse fixture between these sides finished goalless and Fleetwood’s away form suggests a bet with unders on the goals the way to go.

Top Tip: Draw and under 2.5 goals at 5/2

Coventry City v MK Dons
Coventry begin life without Steven Presley against second-placed MK Dons at the Ricoh Arena. The hosts can be backed at 14/5 but the travelling Dons are the even-money favourites. You can support the draw at 12/5. The Sky Blues have not won since January 3 but the Dons have won back-to-back matches after going on a run of three games without a win. Both sides have attacking options and in their last six matches the Dons average two goals per match.

Top Tip: A 2-2 draw at 12/1

Crawley Town v Sheffield United
Promotion chasers Sheffield United are the 4/6 favourites to make it six matches unbeaten with victory at Crawley on Saturday. The struggling Red Devils can be backed at 9/2 and the draw is on offer at 13/5. Crawley are though in good spirits after back-to-back victories claimed against Swindon and Barnsley. Sheffield United can leave scoring to as late as possible, against Coventry they were 2-0 with 10 men before drawing 2-2 after netting in the 78th and 81st minutes. Crawley have scored five second half goals in their previous two outings so expect late drama.

Top Tip: Both teams to score in the second half at 11/4

Crewe Alexandra v Swindon Town
Crewe are priced up at 100/30 to take the scalp of promotion-pushing Swindon, who are the 4/5 favourites for victory at the Alexandra Stadium. The draw can be supported at 13/5. The Railwaymen have won four of their last six home matches and that run started by beating Bristol City; three of those four wins have contained under 2.5 goals. Swindon have lost their last three away matches but still have the second-best record in Sky Bet League 1 on the road this season.

Top Tip: Draw and under 2.5 goals at 3/1

Doncaster Rovers v Colchester United
Doncaster are the odds-on favourites at 3/4 to claim victory at home to Colchester on Saturday. Colchester can be supported at 15/4 Sky Bet are offering 5/2 that the points are shared at the final whistle. In their last six away matches, Colchester have won twice, drawn twice and lost twice showing they aren’t an easy side to predict. Statistics to take note of are that seven of 16 Doncaster home matches have been goalless at the break, while six of 16 Colchester away games have also been 0-0 at half-time.

Top Tip: A 0-0 draw at half time at 13/8

Gillingham v Barnsley
Gillingham are unbeaten in their last eight matches and can be backed at 13/10 for three points at home to Barnsley. The Tykes can be supported at 2/1 to end the Gills’ good run of form. The draw is priced up at 12/5 with Sky Bet. Barnsley have won back-to-back matches and will look to make it three at the Priestfield under new manager Lee Johnson. One interesting fact is that Barnsley haven’t drawn a league match since December 7, 15 games ago. Both teams have scored in Gillingham’s last three games and you can get 4/6 for a fourth match.

Top Tip: Both teams to score at 4/6

Notts County v Port Vale
Notts County have only won once in their last six league matches and that was away to Leyton Orient. Port Vale in contrast have won their last two after going on a four match streak without winning. The Magpies are 6/4 to take the victory while the Valiants are 7/4. Sky Bet have the draw priced up at 23/10. Rob Page’s side have only won one of their last five away matches and they would need to improve that run here to stay in contention for a play-off place come May. A way to look into this fixture at Meadow Lane is through when these two teams tend to score their fair share of goals. Notts County have only scored four goals in their last six matches but those goals all came in the first half while Port Vale have scored four of their last seven goals in the second half of matches.

Top Tip: Notts County/Draw (half-time/full-time) at 14/1

Oldham Athletic v Preston North End
Oldham are searching for a manager after Lee Johnson took over at Barnsley on Wednesday so Dean Holden takes temporary charge for this fixture. Despite that you can back the hosts at 15/8 with Sky Bet while their opponents Preston are priced at 7/5 with the draw available at 23/10. Preston have won their last four matches without conceding a goal but that form comes from three home matches and just the one away. Nonetheless that has led them to closing the gap on the automatic promotion places to three points. The Lilywhites have won four of their last seven away while Oldham have only won twice at Boundary Park in their last seven. Both teams to score in this clash is highly likely as Oldham have only failed to score in three of 15 home matches while Preston have only been shut out twice away from Deepdale this season. Aston Villa loanee Daniel Johnson has two goals in two games for Preston and returns to Oldham where he spent just over a month on loan earlier on this season.

Top Tip: Daniel Johnson to score first at 16/1

Peterborough United v Bradford City
Darren Ferguson left London Road after Peterborough’s 3-0 defeat to second-placed MK Dons and Dave Robertson takes caretaker charge for this match. Peterborough can be supported at 13/10 to beat Bradford, who are 2/1 for victory. Sky Bet have priced the draw up at 12/5. Bradford were beaten at Swindon on Tuesday and their fixture backlog may start to take its toll as they have to play again this Tuesday ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final with Reading. James Hanson has four goals in his last three league matches for Bradford, which includes scoring in both of the Bantams last two away games.

Top Tip: James Hanson to score first at 5/1

Scunthorpe United v Yeovil Town
Yeovil slipped to the foot of the table despite their home draw to Gillingham while Scunthorpe sit in 17th but are closer to a play-off place rather than relegation. The Iron are 13/10 to beat the Glovers, who themselves are 21/10 to take the three points south. Sky Bet have the draw priced at 23/10.  Scunthorpe have won four of their last eight home matches while Yeovil have not won away in their last six matches on the road. Terry Skiverton is still in caretaker charge of the Glovers and they need to start picking up points as they sit five points away from safety and a win here could start the momentum building, which would help them to stay in League 1. The only two goals they have scored in their last six away games came at Bristol City and in a 1-1 draw with Preston so they aren’t without a chance. Scunthorpe have never taken a lead into half-time at Glanford Park this season with eight of 16 matches being goalless. For Yeovil this figure in away games is five, the second most frequent half-time scoreline.

Top Tip: A 0-0 draw at half-time at 13/8

Walsall v Leyton Orient
A win for strugglers Leyton Orient could see them climb out of the relegation zone while three points for Walsall could see them cut the gap on the play-off places. The Saddlers can be backed at 13/10 to claim victory while a win for the O’s is priced at 2/1 with the teams sharing the points at 12/5. Walsall have only picked up four points out of a possible 18 at home in their last six matches, while Orient have secured seven points from a possible 18 on their travels in the same timeframe. The two Orient away wins have seen them score three goals on both occasions and they have only kept one clean sheet in five. David Mooney has three goals in three matches for the O’s after his double at Chesterfield while Walsall loanee Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila has scored three in five since joining the club on a temporary basis from Manchester City.

Top Tip: Jordy Hiwula and David Mooney both to score at 11/1
