Yeovil Town are delighted to announce the return of Rhys Murphy to Huish Park, which will become valid on July 1st following the expiry of his contract at Southend United.
The forward returns with a strong reputation amongst Glovers supporters, having scored 34 goals in 65 games across a two-season spell in Somerset.
His most memorable moments in a Yeovil shirt often came in clashes against our West Country rivals, including a hat-trick against Weymouth during the 20/21 season and a late goal to seal a victory against Torquay United the season prior.
Most recently at Southend, Murphy netted against Yeovil last season, scoring with his first touch after coming on as a substitute at Huish Park in April.
Commenting after his signing was confirmed, the 32-year-old said:
“I’m buzzing to be back. I’ve met the owner, the manager and seen Staunts (Josh Staunton) today. They’re infectious with their energy with the plans for this club, getting it back to where we want to be and winning games.
It feels really good to be back, to see the stadium, I can’t wait to see it packed out and us winning games again.”
Manager Mark Cooper; “Rhys already has a strong rapport with our supporters which will help him settle quickly. He is another great character for the changing room that will provide a lift both internally and externally. His goal record, especially during his last spell was fantastic and I look forward to working with him when the players return for pre-season.”
