Yeovil Town are delighted to announce the signing of Jake Wannell from Taunton Town for an undisclosed fee.
A towering defender, Wannell has been a key component of Taunton Town’s recent success, joining the club in 2020, he was a member of their Southern League title winning squad in 2021/22.
Last season, the 28-year-old was part of a Taunton Town side which kept 19 clean sheets in their first season in the National League South.
Starting his career in the Exeter City Academy, he enjoyed loan spells in the Southern League, with the likes of Chippenham Town, Dorchester Town and Poole Town. Permanent spells with Weymouth and Sailsbury City followed which attracted him offers from a higher level. Ultimately, he made the switch to Taunton Town, a move that turned out to be a great success for the imposing central defender.
Now signing professional terms for the first time in his senior career, Wannell said; “I’m absolutely over the moon to get it over the line and I can’t wait to get going.
“The gaffer has been ringing me for three or four weeks now, talking about the project he wants to do and it suited me down to the ground, so once we got a few bits done, that was it!”
Commenting on his latest signing, Mark Cooper added; “We have been chasing Jake all summer and we are delighted to have secured him, I’d like to thank the owner in funding the move.
“Jake is a big, uncompromising defender with a great left foot, and at 28 I still feel he has some development in him. He adds to what is already a vastly talented and experienced back line in our squad.”
Welcome to the Pride of Somerset, Jake.
