Yeovil Town are delighted to welcome Edwin Agbaje from Ipswich Town on loan until the end of the season.
Having been described by Ipswich manager and former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna as a “really hungry and determined young man,” after his first Ipswich appearance, Agbaje now arrives at Huish Park for his first loan spell.
Hailing from Edenderry, the 18-year-old right-back is a Republic of Ireland youth international with ten caps across the Under-15 to Under-18 age groups – he’ll be training with the Ireland Under-19’s for a training camp early next week.
At youth level, he played for Edenderry Town, Kildare District and eventually Ireland’s most successful club, Shamrock Rovers.
In 2020, he made the big decision to leave his home in Ireland to come to England and join the Ipswich Town academy. He made his first appearance for the Tractor Boys earlier this season, starting against Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy.
Commenting on the loan move, Agbadje said; “When I heard about the move, straight away I was open to it. Yeovil is a big club in this league, with a good history of playing in the top leagues.
I wanted to come over straight away and get that experience of men’s football, at the right club, at the right time for me.“
First team manager Mark Cooper added; “Edwin is a young lad who arrives with a lot of potential.
“He’s impressed so far in training, he’s got a clear determination to do well in the game and that will bode well in his time here.”
Subject to the correct clearances, Agbaje is available for this weekend’s game against Dagenham & Redbridge and will wear the no.39.
Welcome to Somerset, Edwin.
