Yeovil Town fell to a third successive defeat with a 2-1 loss against York City.
Goals in each half were enough for the hosts to secure a valuable three points in the bottom half clash.
This result sees the Glovers slide into the relegation zone, albeit with games in hand on teams around them.
The game started on an even keel, with both sides enjoying spells of possession, but the dynamic changed when the hosts scored with their first real chance with just less than 15 played. Found from a corner, Olly Dyson was able to fire home the opening goal.
Looking for a route back into the game, Morgan Williams should have done better when he was found at the back stick by Charlie Cooper, but his header looped over the bar.
Ten minutes later, Jordan Maguire-Drew was picked out in the box in a similar position to Williams, but in almost identical circumstances his header looped over.
With just five minutes of the half to play, Smith was forced into a wonderful save. Manny Duku was picked out in the box and made the Glovers’ no.1 pull out an acrobatic shot. Injured in taking the chance, Duku was forced off moments later, seemingly with a head injury.
Due to the injury stoppage, there were ten minutes of added time, in which Town fashioned one chance. Debutant See. Palmer-Houlden’s powerful effort on the bounce was well saved by Ryan Whitley, who had recently been subbed on after an injury to Ethan Ross.
The Glovers improved in the second half, with 51 played shots from both Young & Maguire-Drew at the edge of the box were well blocked on their way to goal by the hosts.
Moments later, Ryan Law drove through the York team, but once again he saw his effort blocked on the way to goal.
With 60 played, the Glovers found themselves level. Cooper’s free-kick was diverted by a York player, under pressure from Josh Staunton, to put Town level going into the final half an hour.
After the goal, Cooper’s side looked the more likely to grab the winner, with attacking introductions like Alex Fisher and Andrew Oluwabori added to the mix.
However, the Glovers were caught sleeping in the 73rd minute as Forde caught the Glovers out. He snuck in behind, rounded Smith, but was off-balance when he took the shot and fired over.
Ten minutes later, Yeovil weren’t as fortunate. Lennell John-Lewis was picked out at the back stick to put the hosts back in front.
The goal proved deflating for Town, as the Green and Whites struggled to create anything of note in the closing stages, to go home empty handed.
