Yeovil Town ended their mini pre-season tour of Cornwall with a 4-0 victory at Callington Town.
A first half goal from Shaune Jeffers followed by second half goal from Stephen Arthurworrey and a brace by Ryan Bird secured the win for Paul Sturrock’s men.
Town started the game brightly and passed the ball around nicely on the long grass.
It took seven minutes for Town to open the scoring. A Matt Dolan corner caused havoc in the Callington area and with the ball bouncing around the area, Shaun Jeffers pounced to tuck the ball home from close range.
Town pushed forward at every opportunity and were crossing well from both wings. Trialist Ashley Vincent crossed from the left wing, but new signing Wes Fogden’s header was well saved by Borthwick in the Callington goal.
Five minutes after the interval the Glovers doubled their lead from another cross into the box from the wing. This time left-back and skipper for the day Nathan Smith’s cross was headed home by towering defender Arthurworrey.
Just after the hour mark substitute Bird made an immediate impact when he slotted home to score his first goal in the Green & White.
Bird scored his second of the afternoon and Town’s fourth when he headed home a pinpoint Wilson Carvalho free-kick.
Manager Paul Sturrock said: "I am very happy with the workout here at Callington. The pitch was a difficult one to play on and was sticky, which made hard to run with the ball and to get some good passing going.
"We came into these two games having not worked on any shape or style of play, so I have to be pleased to get two clean sheets and score five goals.
"The mini tour has been a great success, we have a charity night last night (Saturday) which went down with the players. Evening like that are just as important as a training session.
"The new players are still learning about each other. We have a young squad at the moment but if we can educate them properly we have some cracking players in our squad."
