Yeovil Town fans have barely had chance to breath following at quite extraordinary midweek match against Birmingham, but it’s already all eyes back on Huish Park as one of the Championship’s more glamorous clubs pays a visit.
It’s Nigel Adkins’ Reading side who are make their way to Somerset on Saturday and it could be another bumper crowd.
Reading have sold their allocation and Yeovil fans are snapping up tickets in anticipation of another thrilling game.
There are some still available and it’s advised to purchase in advance wherever possible – contact the ticket office on 01935 847888 for more details and to secure your place.
The media attention around Yeovil over the past 48 hours has been somewhat unprecedented but Gary Johnson will be keen to get back to the football.
Tuesday’s extra time defeat to Birmingham may have seen the Glovers exit the cup but the fans were finally treated to a home goal, three in fact, including one from the most unlikely of sources, Luke Ayling’s left foot!
Reading also went out of the cup in midweek, however they did so in slightly more emphatic style. A 6-0 drubbing at the hands of League One pace setters Peterborough.
That game saw Adkins ring the changes, could such a negative result prompt him to make even more?
One thing is for sure, Adkins has the ability to name numerous quality players in each position.
Adam Le Fondre is one of the stars to have tasted the Premier League while Roysten Drenthe once graces the Bernabau for Real Madrid.
One name familiar to Glovers fans will be that of Alex McCarthy.
Yeovil’s former loan keeper will no doubt get a great reception.
Midweek changes were the order of the day for Yeovil too, Paddy Madden was rested from the squad altogether and Andy Williams was cup-tied, both could be in line for a return.
Cup antics aside, neither team goes into the game with great league form behind them, both Yeovil and Reading notched up their only wins of the campaign on the opening day.
Both sides are in the bottom half of the table, but of course, it is early days yet.
The sides have met before in a competitive fixture in 1999. The FA Cup round one fixture so the Royals come out 4-2 winners. Adrian Foster notching one of the Yeovil goals.
This saturday’s fixture is a clash of those who dropped out of the Premier League with those who joined the division from the other direction and it could be a cracker.
For those of you who enjoy a bet, Luke Ayling is 33/1 to score first and 12/1 to repeat his wonder strike at any time, what is it they say about London buses? Check out sponsors Sky Bet for all the latest details.
Let’s get Huish Park rocking again…
