Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action on Tuesday night as they take on York City away.

It’s a mere 573 mile round trip from Huish Park to Bootham Cresent and back for the hardy souls taking on the away trip.

Yeovil Town go into the game with somewhat of an injury crisis, no fewer than eight players are ruled out via the physio’s room and one other – Matt Dolan, is suspended.

From the back, Ben Tozer, Omar Sowunmi, Marc Laird, Kevin Dawson, Ryan Dickson, Simon Gillett, Jordan Gibbons, and Jack Compton have all been missing for large parts of the season with Compton’s return to the bench on Saturday a light at the end of the injury-prone tunnel.

As mentioned, Dolan will also miss this away trip due to being suspended. He saw yellow twice – and red once – on Saturday.

Manager Paul Sturrock commented that the dismissal was naïve of one of the Glovers’ key stars and best performers of the first two games.

What this leaves is a distinct lack of central midfielders – Wes Fogden is the only recognised central player with Ryan Bird filling in for the majority of the second half against Bristol Rovers.

Connor Roberts has experience in the middle of the park as does Alex Lacey but both of them are preferred in a relatively settled defensive line.

The game on Saturday may have seen Yeovil stretched to the limit, but solid performances from Artur Krysiak and Jakub Sokolik meant it took Rovers 85 minutes to break the Glovers down and score the only goal of the entire match.

The spirited defensive performance that came without fruition in terms of a result has mirrored Yeovil’s start to the season with defeats at Exeter and QPR in the cup going the same way.

As for Tuesday’s opponents, York have had a similarly shaky start to the season and are one of four sides – along with Yeovil – remaining in League Two with 0 points to their name.

On the opening day, Russ Wilcox’s side were comprehensively beaten by Wycombe before losing out to their own last minute goal drama on Saturday against Hartlepool.

They do however have cup success in the bag this season, a 2-2 draw again Bradford saw the match go all the way to penalties with the home side progressing.

On the score sheet that day was former Glover James Berrett, Berrett left Yeovil this summer sealing a free transfer to York.

The other former Yeovil player likely to feature is one-time loanee Scott Flinders, the goalkeeper signed from Hartlepool during the off season.

Paul Sturrock hasn’t ruled out getting in some reinforcements but with a quick turnaround between games, any new additions would have to be carefully considered within the budget and so expecting a new face for this game might be out of the question.

The Tuesday night trip to York will be a test of two sides trying to kick start their season with Yeovil hoping the game will provide them with no further concerns in the ever busying physiotherapy department.

Last time we met

Yeovil and York have only met twice in competitive league action – during the 2003/04 season. Both the home and away fixtures ended in wins for the Glovers.

The home leg went first and saw Yeovil come through as 3-0 winners; Kirk Jackson, Colin Miles and Adam Stansfield all on the scoresheet in the emphatic win.

Back up in North Yorkshire as the season drew to a close, Yeovil were thankful to Paul Terry and Andy Lindegaard for a couple of second half goals to claim the double over the Minstermen.

Tickets

Tickets for the fixture can be purchased right up until kick off at the ground with prices set at £18 for adults and concessions at £12.

The York City ticket department have reminded Yeovil fans that it will be a cash-only turnstile on the night.
