Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday when high flying Plymouth Argyle visit Huish Park with a 3pm kick off.
Darren Way’s side are on a decent run of form and with impressive stats and run of results behind them, confidence is high in the home dressing room.
Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Luton extending the undefeated run to four and with just one defeat in eight in all competitions, it’s no wonder that the prospect of facing the League Two leaders doesn’t breed fear quite like it used to.
The hero of the last few games has been Jack Compton, his hat trick against AFC Wimbledon and performances around that fixture have proved the catalyst for much of the success.
There is some good news regarding team selection this weekend too; Alex Lacey and Darren Ward could both be available for selection after missing the last few games.
Ward has been recovering from injury and Lacey has sat out the last three game through suspension.
The other question mark surrounds goalkeeper Artur Krysiak who was forced off in midweek.
He was replaced by Chris Weale and has been given the chance to prove his fitness this week.
Yeovil don’t have access to a super cold ice treatment room, so Krysiak was sent for a swim in the sea… on a cold February morning instead.
The Glovers only names six subs in midweek with Iffy Allen and Shaun Jeffers departing on transfer deadline day.
With a couple faces potentially returning, there could be a full bench once more for Way to pick from.
Opponents, Plymouth are currently second in the table having dropped off top spot relinquishing that to Northampton.
The Pilgrims have only won one of their last four game losing twice to fellow promotion chasers Wycombe and Northampton that spell.
The 1-0 loss last week was the first time they had failed to score a goal in a league match since October.
Plymouth’s only major Deadline Day deal saw them add some fire power in the form of former Manchester United trainee Daniel Nardiello from Bury.
A win for Plymouth could see them return to the top of the pile – with a sold out away end there will plenty of Pilgrims there to cheer them on.
On the other side, a Yeovil win could see them jump up another place, depending on how Newport County get on.
Plenty of incentive for both sides in this local clash then and you can be there to see Darren Way’s new, exciting side take on some of the best in the league.
Huish Park is the place to be this Saturday.
Last time we met
The first game between the two teams this season came on Boxing Day when a single goal was enough to give The Pilgrims a home win.
Ryan Brunt scored the winner in the second half after pouncing on a spill by goalkeeper Chris Weale.
Despite the relative locality of the two sides and both team’s extended spells in the Football League, since the turn of the millennium, the two have only crossed paths in one other season, the 2010/11 campaign.
The two league games came within one month and one day of each other in early 2011 and in 180 minutes, just one goal was scored – an Andy Williams deflected effort an hour into the second fixture at Huish Park.
However, since then, the sides have played three times in pre-season friendlies with Yeovil coming out on top in each occasion.
In 2012, Reuben Reid – now of the Pilgrims scored a hat trick in a pre-season thrashing, a year later and it was the lethal combo of Hayter and Madden that did the trick before Liam Davis and Sam Hoskins scored late goals to secure a win in the summer of 2014.
