Yeovil Town are back in SkyBet League Two action this coming Saturday with the small matter of a 750 mile round trip to Carlisle United for a 3pm kick off.
Yeovil fans are facing 12 hours of travelling this weekend and are hoping that countless motorway miles are worth it as Paul Sturrock’s side look to turn around a poor run of form.
Last week, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cambridge United was Yeovil’s third defeat on the spin and a hammer blow to the team’s confidence.
The U’s had gone 3-0 up with barely half an hour on the clock but a spirited second half performance saw Ryan Bird and Josh Sheehan pull goals back to show the fight that had been needed from the start.
Prior to Saturday, defeats at the hands of Mansfield and Notts County had seen Glovers’ heads drop, but the final 45 minutes on Saturday is hoped to have given the side enough to build on for this week.
The injury news is still, pretty much, as negative as always with Sturrock revealing that Fulham loanee Stephen Arthurworrey has returned to the London club for surgery and will be out for a long time.
He also mentioned that two players limped out of training on Wednesday and even a trialist only lasted 12 minutes before pulling up hurt.
In better news, Wes Fogden is back and available with the longer term absentees, all hoping to edge closer to a return sooner rather than later.
Jordan Gibbons has departed the club since the last fixture, his injury was serious enough that he decided to take time away from the game to recover.
As for Carlisle, they are also trying to find their consistency following a 1-1 draw with Wycombe and a 3-2 defeat to Northampton.
Their last win came back on the 17th when another side from the South West – Exeter – had to make the long journey back with a 1-0 defeat.
The Blues currently lie in 9th place and a win on Saturday could see them jump into the play offs, but they’ll be going into the game without midfielder Luke Joyce who was sent off last Saturday.
Prior to their game on Saturday they had added striker Hallam Hope from Bury on a loan deal and he could make his home debut this week.
Two sides that are looking to go into the cup games in the FA Cup and JPT with three points in the bag meet this Saturday and whilst there may be many miles and quite a lot of league places between the two – anything can happen.
The next home game at Huish Park is on the 14th November when Stevenage come to town – click HERE to buy tickets for that game now.
Last time we met
During the 2012/13 season the two sides played a couple of very exciting games that saw a 3-3 draw being played out at Brunton Park and a 3-1 Blues win down at Huish Park.
In the first game of that season, Mark Beck – now of Yeovil – scored twice in a 3-1 win for Carlisle. Reuben Reid got a consolation shortly before Joe Garner put the game beyond all doubt deep into the second half.
In the reverse fixture Yeovil were 3-1 up with 89 minutes on the clock but failed to seal the win.
Kevin Dawson, Paddy Madden and James Hayter had all scored in front of the 150 or so travelling fans, but Lee Miller and a Luke Ayling own goal meant the spoils were shared.
The Glovers haven’t record a win over the Cumbrians since 2011 when goals from Jon Obika and Dean Bowditch completed a double over their opponents after a 1-0 win (Obika again) secured a win at Huish Park.
