The Glovers climbed to sixth in the table after going eight games unbeaten but have since dropped to 13th following a three-match winless run, such is the tight nature of the division.
Only five points separates Town and the top seven, and a win over Portsmouth tonight (7.4pm) would go along way to help the club maintain their play-off aim.
Way told YTFC’s official YouTube channel: “We have to work extra hard to push ourselves into another position to get closer to the play-offs.
“We don’t want to lose sight of that and we can only that by winning games.
“The amount of effort and energy that goes into winning a League Two game now is massive so we have to make sure we’re ready to do that.”
He added: “If we had said at the start of the season this is where we were going to be at this point we’d be pleased.
“We always want more and we’re not shy of the fact we need more goals in the team and everyone is trying to share that workload but it’s not for the want of trying.
“I think the team and the players individually are developing really well and quicker than what I expected and we have to make sure we maintain that.”
