Yeovil Town FC Manager Darren Sarll has given a significant boost to the Elite Player Development Programme, by confirming his personal backing and involvement to a much-expanded programme.
The programme which is jointly offered by Yeovil Town FC and Yeovil College is an exciting opportunity for Year 12 and 13 BTEC students to continue their full-time education within a professional football environment.
The Football programme training is based at Huish Park with games across the South West, and studies based at Yeovil College offer BTEC Level 2 & 3 options, retakes of GCSEs and opportunities for additional coaching qualifications alongside the BTEC programme.
Whilst this programme has operated for some years, the Club and College has agreed to significantly boost the programme, with Darren Sarll giving his personal backing to the scheme including his direct involvement in the first trial date on the evening on Tuesday 3 March.
UPDATE 24th MARCH 2020: All trials have been cancelled until further notice due to the spread of COVID-19. New dates will be confirmed in due course.
Commenting Darren Sarll said; “At 16 I got the biggest knock back of my life. Within days I agreed to partake in the very same scheme, and I found my calling and future trade, in coaching.
“This scheme gave me the platform to qualify, train every day and practices my trade as a coach. I have overseen many of these programmes since and have ex-students who are now Physio’s, Head of Analysis, Heads of Coaching and most importantly players who all live in the EFL and Premier League.
“These are wonderful programmes that I am looking to build at Yeovil Town FC to ensure we give focused, young, determined people the best possible chance to achieve their life goals. I want this football club in partnership with Yeovil College to be the hub of creating really positive futures for this community and Somerset area.
“I hope you’ll join Terry and I on one of the Assessment evenings to get a big insight into the future of we’d like to create with you.”
Speaking on behalf of Yeovil College Matt Hann, Director of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Quality said;
“It’s about committing to be the best academically and practically. Our shared vision empowers players to expect more and achieve more, connecting a high-quality academic qualification with an acceleration in football development”.
Trial dates will include a presentation from the first team and academy manager with information for students and parents about what the programme will include.
