We are delighted to welcome back ‘one of our own’ as Andy Lindegaard is the latest former Glover to take on a Memory Lanes Q&A.
Born and bred in Yeovil, Andy achieved all local boys dreams and played for The Glovers. Andy started off down the road, playing for Westlands, a club that in the past has been the springboard for many Yeovil player.
Andy started off in the reserves, and soon was attracting attention with some impressive displays at full back. When Dave Webb took over the reigns of Yeovil in March 2000, he surprised all a week after he took over by naming a bunch of local players at Doncaster away, amongst them nineteen year old Andy Lindegaard.
Andy and the other lads had a blinder, producing a fantastic yet surprising three-nil win over the Yorkshire club, never an easy place to go. Andy was ever present in the side for the remainder of 1999/2000 season. Scoring his first goal for the club in a three-nil victory over Hednesford just before the end of the season. Andy became an important member of the squad, through the time of Colin Addison and then in came Gary Johnson.
Under Johnson, Andy became a recognised member of those great years. At Villa Park, Andy came on as substitute to shore up the defences in the FA Trophy final victory over Stevenage and give Yeovil its first major national trophy.
The 2002/03 season saw the Glovers crowned champions and promotion to the Football League, no small part played by Andy who made thirty-six appearances in the season.
It was quite poetic that the title was clinched at Doncaster, on the same ground Andy had made his Yeovil debut. Andy continued to be a part of Yeovil’s success in the Football League under Gary Johnson and later Russell Slade.
Probably his finest moment in a Yeovil shirt came with the commentators words at the City Ground, Nottingham “… And here’s Lindegaard” with that Andy put in a world class cross to Marcus Stewart to head in and send the fans crazy.
In total Andy played 158 times for the club scoring 11 times. These performances at a time of the best years in Yeovil’s history.
Andy will be joining us in the Alec Stock Lounge ahead of our National League clash with Wealdstone on Bank Holiday Monday. The Q&A will be starting at approx 1pm.
