Yeovil Town Women stormed into the next round of the league cup as they beat Porlock on Sunday. Eleven different scorers and a notable hat-trick by Annie Chalmers on her debut ensured that the Glovers progressed in the cup.
Paul Knight made two changes to the team who beat Middlezoy Rovers last time out, Jess Gold and Jess Hodge came in for Niamh Nicholls and Emma Brazell. This was club captain Jess Hodge’s first start since December after being unavailable due to injury.
Yeovil started the affair aggressively and found themselves 7-0 up within the opening fifteen minutes, this spell saw Hodge, Carslake and Davenport all score a brace.
Later in the half Davenport and Hodge completed first-half hat-tricks, while Jess Gold also found the net, as Yeovil went in at the break eleven goals to the good.
Yeovil began the second half in a similar vein to the first, as new signing Annie Chalmers scored within one minute of her debut at the beginning of the second period. Chalmers’ form translated into a ten-minute hat-trick, as she netted her third of the match in the 55th minute to give Yeovil sixteen for the afternoon.
Yeovil continued to score throughout the half, with one notable scorer being the goalkeeper Emily Hall, who got herself on the scoresheet in the 81st minute, scoring Yeovil’s twenty-seventh. As well as this, youngster Ceyda Fordrey scored two more in her second appearance for the first team, making it three goals from two substitute appearances this season.
The match finished 29-0, with Yeovil cruising into the next round of the cup, in which they will face Cheddar.
The player of the match was awarded to Becky Miles for her sizable contribution to the goals scored by the Glovers.
Yeovil Town Women return to action on Sunday 24th March as they travel to Cheddar in the second round of the league cup 14:00 KO.
