Yeovil Town enjoyed a winning start to their pre-season schedule, with a 4-0 victory against Sherborne Town in a behind closed doors friendly.
Played at Yeovil’s Alvington training ground, Chris Hargreaves would have been satisfied with what he saw, as his side produced a dominating display against the Western League champions.
Goals from Malachi Linton, Ollie Haste and two trialists proved the difference on a sweltering evening in Somerset.
Starting on the front foot with a long spell of possession, the Glovers’ first chance fell to Ollie Hulbert who didn’t get a clean strike on his effort leading to an easy save for the Sherborne goalkeeper.
Just minutes later, Yeovil struck ahead. Linton netted his first goal in green & white, winning a penalty and converting from the spot.
After a change of shape, chances continued to fall. Hulbert, looking to make up for his earlier miss, worked room into the box and elected to go alone but once again, the Sherborne stopper was equal to his effort.
The change of shape saw some changes in personnel too, with a substitute trialist adding Town’s second, following up on the goalkeeper and poking the ball between his legs.
The second half brought more Yeovil pressure, with a younger looking eleven. A trialist extended the Glovers’ advantage, placing a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Growing in confidence, Haste netted his first goal for the Yeovil men’s team. After being sent through by a trialist, Haste hammered the ball home to add more shine to the scoreline.
After netting his first goal in green & white, Haste nearly had a second with less than fifteen to go. The youngster worked room for himself after driving to the edge of the box with the ball but dragged his effort wide.
4-0 was how it finished, with the Glovers full of confidence ahead of a trip to Taunton Town next Tuesday.
We’d like to place on record our thanks to Sherborne for their assistance in arranging the fixture.
