Yeovil Town extended their unbeaten league run to six games after defeating 18th-place Maidenhead United 3-1 at Huish Park on Saturday, with goals from Aaron Jarvis and Charlie Cooper.
The first chance of the match came in the sixth minute from a Yeovil corner swung towards the back post, finding the head of Jake Wannell, but he was unable to hit the target and open the scoring for the home side.
However, just four minutes later, the Glovers went 1-0 up as captain Frank Nouble played a brilliant through ball to Aaron Jarvis, who slotted the ball beautifully into the bottom left corner.
Frank Nouble almost doubled the score in the 14th minute after another ball through the middle saw him battling side by side with the Maidenhead defenders. However, his shot was saved by the Maidenhead goalkeeper.
The visitors capitalised on their first chance of the game in the 25th minute. A free kick from the left-hand side was struck low and took a deflection off their number 5, Kevin Lokko, putting the ball in the back of the net and equalising the score.
Ollie Wright made a crucial save in the 36th minute, tipping over a chipped shot from a Maidenhead striker who had escaped Finn Cousin-Dawson down the left side.
Aaron Jarvis was denied his second goal in the 42nd minute when a great cross from Alex Whittle on the left found his head, only for the Maidenhead keeper to make an impressive save.
Early in the second half, Aaron Jarvis doubled Yeovil’s lead in the 52nd minute, slotting in a rebound from close range after the Maidenhead keeper saved a cross into the middle from Jake Wannell on the left.
The man of the match was denied yet again in the 60th minute after some excellent play in the middle of the pitch put Aaron Jarvis in front of goal. But once more, the Maidenhead keeper made another brilliant save.
The Glovers extended their lead in the 63rd minute when a clearance from the Maidenhead defence fell to Charlie Cooper, who struck the ball beautifully, first time, into the bottom left corner to give the home side a two-goal advantage.
Maidenhead gained some possession in the final 25 minutes but were unable to break down the Yeovil defence to get back into the game.
The final whistle blew, and cheers rang around the ground as the Glovers moved up to seventh place in the National League table, with just two points now separating them from sixth-placed Rochdale.
