It was late heartbreak for Yeovil Town as Southend United pushed for a last-gasp equaliser in the 94th minute of the match, following goals in the first and final minutes from the visiting team.

It was a less-than-ideal start for the Glovers, as they were caught on the break within the first 40 seconds, conceding a goal inside the opening minute.

A ball down the left flank found Leon Chambers-Parillon, who squared it to an unmarked Charley Kendall, allowing him to slot it into the bottom right corner.

Just before the ten-minute mark, Chambers-Parillon found himself just outside the 18-yard area after another run down the left-hand side, which resulted in a cross into the middle. However, his effort sailed high and wide of the goal.

The Glovers responded swiftly, levelling the score in the 13th minute. Kyran Wilson found himself one-on-one with Southend goalkeeper Nick Hayes and showed no difficulty in finding the back of the net.

Just five minutes later, the Glovers struck again. A superb low cross from Ciaran McGuckin on the right-hand side was slotted perfectly to an open Frank Nouble, who netted his second goal in as many home matches.

Ten minutes after scoring, Nouble was called into action at the other end of the pitch. He saved the Glovers from conceding an equaliser with a crucial goal-line clearance, after a back-post header had beaten Aidan Stone and seemed destined for the net.

On the stroke of the half-hour mark, Stone produced a brilliant save, tipping the ball over the bar from a close-range effort fired at him by Jack Bridge.

As the second half unfolded, the game began to settle. The first major action came in the 63rd minute from the visitors. James Golding was left unmarked in the penalty area and had a golden opportunity to equalise with a free header from James Moreton’s clipped cross from the left-hand side, but he sent the ball just wide.

Southend piled on the pressure in the five minutes of additional time, desperately seeking an equaliser. Moreton took a corner that almost miraculously found its way into the net, but the ball drifted just wide.

The pressure proved too much in the 94th minute, as James Golding struck from around 20 yards out, redeeming himself and securing a point for the visitors at the death.

The Glovers will now turn their attention to Tuesday evening’s match against league leaders Barnet, aiming to bounce back despite a strong performance.
