It was a game of two halves as Yeovil Town triumphed over Tamworth 2-1 at Huish Park. Both teams sat level on points in the league table prior to the match, with only goal difference separating them.
Second-half goals from Charlie Cooper and Frank Nouble cancelled out Ronan Maher’s first-half strike, earning the Glovers their first win of 2025.
Despite a slow start to the match, the visitors capitalised on their first chance in the 28th minute. Thomas McGlinchey broke down the left-hand side, beating the Yeovil defence. After swinging the ball towards the back post, Jordan Ponticelli took a shot on goal, which Aidan Stone did well to save. However, Ronan Maher was there on the rebound to break the deadlock for Tamworth.
Stone was forced to make another unexpected save late in the first half after a shot was fired at him from distance. Just moments later, on the opposite side of the pitch, Kyrell Wilson was brought down in the penalty area, but referee Dale Baines waved away the appeals.
Three minutes before the break, the visitors were denied a second goal when a powerful long-range shot from Haydn Hollis brushing the woodwork.
Yeovil struck back just four minutes into the second half. Neat work from Swansea loanee Kyrell Wilson saw the ball fall to Charlie Cooper outside the area. Setting himself up, he took an ambitious strike on goal that deflected on its way in, drawing the Glovers level.
Huish Park came alive in the 59th minute as the Glovers turned the scoreline on its head. Frank Nouble fired the ball home following a brilliant through-ball down the right channel from Kyrell Wilson.
Stone was called into action again in the 72nd minute after a Tamworth corner was swung in from the left. The ball landed at Haydn Hollis’s feet, and he took a close-range chance, but a quick reaction save from Stone preserved the Glovers’ lead.
Yeovil’s victory will provide momentum heading into their game against Maidenhead United this weekend, who currently sit six positions below the Glovers in the Vanarama National League.
