Yeovil Town had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Aldershot Town at Huish Park, as Ciaran McGuckin’s second-half goal cancelled out Josh Barrett’s early strike. Despite dominating large parts of the second half, the Glovers couldn’t find the winner, leaving them with another frustrating draw.
Yeovil started brightly, with Ciaran McGuckin and Jordan Young linking up well early on. In the 6th minute, McGuckin lifted a clever ball through to Young, but his shot was well saved by Aldershot’s Marcus Dewhurst. Just two minutes later, the visitors struck first. Aldershot broke quickly following a Yeovil corner with Josh Barrett finding space on the edge of the box and lifting a perfectly placed shot into the far corner, giving Aldershot a 1-0 lead.
Aldershot could have doubled their advantage soon after when Christian Maghoma’s towering header smashed against the crossbar. Yeovil had their moments too—Jake Wannell came close with a poked effort from a corner, and Brett McGavin’s free kick forced Dewhurst into a low save. Frank Nouble also had a chance, but his shot from close range was blocked by Dewhurst, keeping Yeovil at bay.
Despite Yeovil’s pressure, they went into the break 1-0 down. Manager Mark Cooper made a change at half-time, bringing on James Plant, and the Glovers came out fighting. Frank Nouble caused problems up front, flicking on a corner and creating a few dangerous moments, but they couldn’t find the breakthrough.
That finally changed in the 58th minute. A well-worked move saw Jordan Young and McGuckin link up again, with McGuckin calmly sliding the ball into the bottom corner to level the score. The goal sparked a bit of a scuffle between Nouble and Aldershot’s Lachlan Byrd, with both players picking up yellow cards.
With the game now wide open, Yeovil pushed hard for a winner. Aaron Jarvis, Matt Worthington, and Sam Pearson were all brought on to add fresh legs, and in stoppage time, Worthington came closest, forcing Dewhurst into a diving save with a shot from distance.
Despite seven minutes of added time, Yeovil couldn’t find the winner, and the match ended 1-1. The Glovers will feel frustrated, knowing they had the chances to take all three points.
