Yeovil Town saw their third home defeat of the season after Solihull Moors secured the win at Huish Park following a 12th-minute goal from Conor Wilkinson.
It was the Glovers who had the first chance of the match. This came after Sam Pearson won the ball back in the middle of the pitch following an unsuccessful cross from Solihull and drove the ball down the right-hand side into the opposition’s box, shooting the ball wide.
Not long after this, in the eighth minute of the match, the visitors started to put on the pressure as the ball fell to Solihull player John Bostock in acres of space around the 25-yard mark. He took a touch and drilled the ball just wide of the post.
It didn’t take the visitors long to put themselves ahead after this. Just four minutes after their first chance, in the 12th minute of the match, Solihull forward Conor Wilkinson was played through the last two Yeovil defenders from the left-hand side, allowing him to chip the ball over Ollie Wright’s head and dip into the back of the net.
From here, Solihull’s momentum didn’t dip as they pushed for another goal. Just four minutes after they broke the goalless scoreline, a ball given away in the middle of the park by Charlie Cooper allowed Conor Wilkinson to play a good ball into captain Jamey Osborne, who hit the post, denying the away team a second goal.
The Greens had a chance in the 36th minute of the match when they won a free kick around 30 yards out from goal on the left-hand side. Brett McGavin took the shot, which deflected off the Solihull wall, resulting in the ball hitting the crossbar and going out for a corner.
In the last five minutes of the first half, Solihull captain Jamey Osborne had two chances to get away from nearby Yeovil Town players but was unable to hit the target.
The Glovers stepped up in the second half, with the first chance coming from Michael Smith, 25 yards out, sending the ball just over the bar. This, however, seemed to spark more forward play from the home side.
Ollie Wright was tested in the 55th minute when he made a good low save from an attempted cross by Solihull player Joe Newton, preventing any players from seeing it through.
With much more play in and around the visitors’ half of the pitch, Yeovil tried to push forward down the channels but were often blocked by Solihull defenders. Tensions rose when Solihull goalkeeper Laurie Walker was booked for time-wasting in the 79th minute.
Moments of despair came in the 83rd minute as Captain Matt Worthington was fouled after winning the ball back 25 yards out. The free kick was taken, and the Glovers had their hopes up as the ball found the head of Jake Wannell at the back post, sending the ball into the net. However, the goal was ruled offside moments later.
Despite most of the second half being played in and around the Solihull box, the Glovers were unable to break through the visitors’ defence and equalise.
The final whistle blew after six minutes of additional time, and the visitors celebrated as they took their second consecutive away win home.
