Yeovil Town edged closer to the playoff places after a goalless draw against Tamworth in a tightly contested match. Despite finishing with 10 men following Morgan Williams’ second-half red card, the Glovers held firm against the National League North champions.
The Glovers fielded an unchanged side following their impressive 3-0 victory over Wealdstone just three days prior. However, their starting line-up didn’t stay intact for long. After an early attempt from Tamworth’s Kyle Finn flew wide, Yeovil’s captain Matt Worthington turned his ankle on the artificial surface, forcing an early substitution. Jordan Young came on to replace him.
The Glovers soon found their rhythm and began mounting pressure. A Brett McGavin free kick in the 9th minute found Morgan Williams, whose header narrowly missed the target. Moments later, Ciaran McGuckin’s cross-shot nearly caught Tamworth goalkeeper Jas Singh off guard, forcing him to tip the ball over the bar.
Yeovil continued to dominate the next 15 minutes. James Plant saw a low shot saved, and Dylan Morgan had two efforts denied by Singh.
Tamworth then began to create chances of their own. Just after the half-hour mark, a low cross from Luke Fairlamb found Nathan Tshikuna, but his shot posed little threat to Yeovil keeper Ollie Wright. A long throw-in from Tom Tonks also set up Haydn Hollis, who blasted over the bar.
The first half featured over 8 minutes of stoppage time due to injuries to Jas Singh and Kyle Finn. In the 7th minute of added time, Charlie Cooper delivered a ball into the box, but Jake Wannell’s header was comfortably gathered by Singh.
Yeovil came out strong again in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Brett McGavin’s free kick forced Singh into a save, and soon after, Charlie Cooper fired wide from long range. The Glovers came closest to breaking the deadlock when McGuckin’s low cross deflected off Haydn Hollis, looping over Singh and hitting the crossbar before being cleared.
Tamworth, trying to gain a foothold, created opportunities from corners and long throw-ins. Kyle Finn’s curling effort went narrowly wide as the hosts sought a breakthrough. Yeovil made their first unforced substitution in the 59th minute, bringing on debutant Kofi Shaw to replace Dylan Morgan. However, the game took a dramatic turn when Morgan Williams was sent off for a challenge on Rico Browne while trying to stop a counter-attack.
Despite being down to 10 men, Yeovil nearly snatched a late winner. In the 78th minute, Kofi Shaw won the ball and drove forward, but his low shot was saved by Singh. Tamworth made several late changes, including Matt Curley, who was forced off with an injury just 30 seconds after coming on.
Even with a man down, Yeovil remained a threat, with Brett McGavin’s deflected shot and Frank Nouble’s header going wide in stoppage time. However, neither team could find a breakthrough, and the match ended 0-0 with results elsewhere seeing the Glovers remain in 8th.
