Yeovil Town U18s progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with an impressive 4-1 victory over Helston Athletic, thanks to a brace from captain Corey Koerner and goals from Ollie Hughes and George Geraghty.
Helston, who had eliminated the Glovers with a 3-0 win in last season’s competition, made a bright start and took the lead just after 10 minutes. A free kick into the box caused problems for Yeovil’s defence, and Levi Hilling was quickest to react, slotting the ball home after Louis Parker failed to clear.
Despite the early setback, Yeovil responded well and fought their way back into the game. In a tightly contested first half, they found an equaliser just after the half-hour mark through Corey Koerner.
The teams went into the break with nothing to separate them.
The second half continued in the same competitive fashion, but it was the Young Glovers who proved to be more clinical in front of goal. Just six minutes after the restart, Ollie Hughes’ persistence paid off as he found the back of the net, putting Yeovil 2-1 up.
Helston struggled to regain control, and in the 68th minute, Yeovil extended their lead. George Geraghty capitalised on a defensive error, charging down a clearance before finishing confidently to make it 3-1.
With Helston’s hopes of a comeback fading, Koerner put the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute, netting his second of the night to seal a commanding 4-1 win for the Glovers.
It was a satisfying result for Yeovil, who gained revenge for last season’s exit and secured their place in the next round with a strong performance in a hard-fought encounter.
