Yeovil Town return to National League action on Saturday as Boreham Wood pose the latest opposition for Darren Sarll’s side.

Following defeat on Saturday against Chesterfield, a rotated Yeovil team were able to comfortably beat Bridgwater United 4-1 in county cup action in midweek. With more minutes in legs, a number of Wednesday’s team will have hoped to make a lasting impression ahead of Saturday’s league fixture.

For the hosts, their unbeaten start came to an end last weekend as Solihull Moors were the 3-1 victors at Damson Park.

Darren Sarll’s thoughts

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Darren Sarll said;

“I don’t think I said this at the time, but the last time we saw Luke (Garrard) and Boreham Wood, was the first game back after Lee (Collins) died. I thought they conducted themselves in a fantastically respectful fashion.

“I’m not sure if I ever thanked them, and if I haven’t, I thank them from the bottom of my heart because that was the toughest day.

“He (Luke Garrard) is a good coach, he recruits well, his sides are always competitive, they’re always tight and compact games.

“Luke and I are probably quite similar characters on the touchline, quite vocal and animated. If we approach the game the same way as we did last afternoon, we’re in for a bad afternoon.”

In his weekly press conference Sarll confirmed that club captain Luke Wilkinson will miss out due to an injury he sustained against Chesterfield on Saturday.

Lewis Simper also will not be involved due to an injury, but the Cambridge United loanee will return to training next week.

Jack Robinson could be in line for his first National League start of the season after he returned to the club after a short period of rehabilitation with his parent club Middlesbrough.

A foot in the opposition camp

Managed by former AFC Wimbledon player Luke Garrard since 2015, Garrard was the youngest manager in English football’s top five divisions when he was first appointed. Since then Garrard has led the Wood to multiple play-off finishes but has been unable to get the club over the line.

Following the transfer of star striker Kabongo Tshimanga, this summer has been one of change for Boreham Wood, with the experienced Scott Boden coming in to replace him. A very different mould of forward, the towering Boden has a prolific record at National League level, netting 23 times in 62 games for previous club Chesterfield.

Have we met before

Since returning to the National League, Town have endured mixed fortunes against the Wood. The Glovers were winless during 19/20 after a draw at Huish Park and a defeat at Meadow Park, however the 20/21 season brought success, as the Glovers did the double over Garrard’s side.
