Yeovil Town’s season draws to a close on Saturday with the visit of Stockport County to Huish Park (12:30pm).
In attendance will be the family of Lee Collins, which coincides with the launch of the club’s Crowdfunder campaign, which had the backing of a number of Collins’ former sides. We ask all in attendance to give his family a warm welcome to Huish Park.
The clash with Hatters provides an opportunity to wave goodbye to Yeovil Town favourites Carl Dickinson & Jimmy Smith, who will leave the club to take up a role as Player-Manager at Hanley Town and academy coach at Chelsea.
Darren Sarll’s thoughts
The boss was honest that he was looking forward to a break after a difficult season on and off the pitch, “I need a rest, I am worn within an inch of my life and after this weekend I am going to have a little break.
“It has been easily the worst year of my life. I know people are critical of me and the team’s performances, but they have to understand it has been one thing after another for us.”
Team news
Yeovil Town will certainly be without Luke Wilkinson who will be serving a suspension following his red card against Maidenhead, however Alex Bradley will be available for selection after serving his three-match ban.
J.Smith & Dickinson will be desperate to be involved in their final fixture after injury worries.
A foot in the opposition camp
Stockport returned to the National League after promotion was sealed in 2018/19. The transformation under Simon Rusk since January 2021 cannot be understated, with County safely secured in the play-offs ahead of today’s season finale at Huish Park.
The star man for the visitors is Paddy Madden, a name well known amongst the Glovers faithful for his famous goal at Wembley in the 2013 League One play-off final victory over Brentford. After turning a successful loan spell at the Huish Park into a permanent deal, the Irish forward plundered 23 goals to secure the League One golden boot. However, Madden will not be available for selection due to an injury. Usually leading the line alongside him is Alex Reid, the fourth top scorer in the league, Reid has struck 17 goals this season.
