Yeovil Town manager Darren Way was very impressed with his side’s display last night after a goalless draw against League Two promotion contenders Plymouth Argyle.

Despite the game ending in a stalemate, Town were unlucky to have not won the game after putting Argyle under sustained pressure throughout the game, with visiting goalkeeper Luke McCormick called into action several times.

And Way, who kept up his unbeaten home record since taking the job, was very pleased with his team’s performance.

Way explained, “I’ve not seen a display like that from a Yeovil team for a very, very long time. I said to them it’s important we got the strategy right.

“I said to them I want a powerful performance. I used powerful words, and powerful people do powerful things; that’s what you’ve seen tonight, I’ve got powerful players!

The Glovers were up against the side with the second most wins in the division, but it was Argyle who had to change their tactics to deal with Town.

Way said “I thought we had the best chances; I’ve not seen a Plymouth team play from back to front like that, obviously it was done to isolate our two centre-halves, so we had to deal with their direct balls. But I thought they done that with everything that was thrown at them.

“It’s mad now because you look at teams like Plymouth, they know everything about us, and towards the end I think we’ve got a team shaping up to match us, so credit goes to the players for that.”

Town started the game with both Brandon Goodship and Tahvon Campbell, on loan from AFC Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion respectively, and the Yeovil boss says that the young pair are enjoying their spell at Huish Park.

“Brandon and Tahvs are finding their feet at this level,” said Way, “it’s a great opportunity for them, you can see they’re enjoying it and embracing it.

“What an opportunity for them to ply their trade at this football club at the moment, with the pressure that’s on it as well!”

After two draws against teams at the top end of the table, Yeovil now have to go to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday in a relegation six-pointer at Victoria Road.

And Way is hoping that they can put a gap between them and the Daggers with a win, as three points in East London would give Yeovil a nine-point cushion over their hosts.

The Yeovil boss is taking inspiration from the Portsmouth and Plymouth displays as he said, “There’s a lot of positives to take from the last two games.

“We have to learn from the Hartlepool performance too, it’s the only time where we didn’t show that intensity or athleticism, so we’ll be making sure we show that on Saturday.

“We’ve come out of the relegation zone again tonight, so to do that against a real good team like that, off the back of the Portsmouth game with that same intensity, is fantastic.

“We’ll make sure we dust ourselves down and that the recovery is right, so far the players haven’t let me down on that, and we’ll go through the process to do that so we’re firing against Dagenham.”
