Without a game for over a week Darren Sarll has been able to work extensively with his players ahead of Yeovil’s trip to Boreham Wood on Saturday (3pm).
Following a disappointing trip to Harrogate, the Gaffer gave an honest assessment of the tough spell of training his players have had.
Speaking to YTTV, Sarll said;
“Nobody was happy about the game at Harrogate, so the natural thing was to work with the individuals within. Sometimes the best thing is a size nine up the backside, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
“Utilising my experiences and the tools I have at my disposal, we’ve worked hard. We looked at that 3-5-2 system that we have been playing, we worked on that to give us a different dimension to the way we play. A lot of the teams in our division seem to play that system too.
“Very rarely have I gone one season where I’ve been able to play one system, even in development football.
“You have to constantly keep people stimulated and invigorated. The posh word for it is tactical periodisation. We just always want the players to have something new to work with and have more than one way of playing because you always have to adapt over the course of a season.
“Mainly we’ve been utilising the time we’ve had. They’ve had to work very, very hard, and rightly so.”
Looking ahead to Saturday, the Gaffer is looking forward to getting back into action as the Glovers travel to South Hertfordshire for a promotion clash.
“I’m not surprised they’re doing well. Their resources are similar to ours; we operate within the same market. They outbid us for a player that will be available to them on Saturday.
“I like their manager (Luke Garrard), I think he’s a smashing guy and when they came to us, I thought they played well in the second half, and we were better in the first.
“The best thing about Boreham Wood is you get to play on the most beautiful pitch, it’s a lovely surface and definitely one that will suit us and our way of playing.
“I don’t really see where teams are in the table, you’ve just got to go an attack everyone. I just see that there is three points there on offer, how quickly can we take the points that are available to us, that’s all this part of the season is.
“It will be a tough game, if they’re on great form brilliant, if not it will still be a tough game as they all are!”
