Having gained a taste of first team action just two games into his debut season as a professional footballer, Kieffer Moore is hungry to pull on the green and white hoops once more.

The imposing former Dorchester Town striker made an initial impression upon his summer arrival at Huish Park, towering over his team-mates at 6ft 5ins.

A string of lively friendly performances – including a well-taken angled goal in his first game at Poole Town – displayed just how he had caught the eye of scout Pete Johnson as he scoured the Non-League scene for a rough diamond to gift to manager brother Gary.

The Glovers had fought off the attentions of Sky Bet Championship rivals Charlton Athletic and, reportedly, Bolton Wanderers to capture the 21-year-old who had been released by Torquay United as a teenager when the Gulls had to fold their youth system.

For once, Yeovil’s minimal resources in comparison to their new divisional opponents had worked in their favour. Moore wanted to be close to and involved in a first team, rather than a regular in an Under-21 development squad.

And so far he believes his decision to choose David over Goliath has been justified, already named as an unused substitute in the Championship and given a chance to shine with goals in behind-closed-doors games with Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City.

However, his obvious personal highlight to date came at Roots Hall where he replaced fellow giant Michael Ngoo after 82 minutes of the 1-0 Capital One Cup first round defeat of Southend United.

“It was a great experience,” said Moore. “We may have been winning and it might not have been long but it was great to get on the pitch and get some time under my belt.

“Playing games is exactly what I want to do and I know I have got to take my chance when it comes. Hopefully I will get another chance soon, maybe in this competition.”

Former fitness trainer Moore admits that the step up from the Conference South to the Championship has presented quite a learning curve. But it is one he is relishing challenging.

“At the minute I’m trying to take everything the management are telling me on board and it’s just going through the motions, taking their steps and making sure that I put them into practice,” he said.

“It has definitely been a big help to my game and progression being this close to a Championship squad as well and being involved in and part of a club that is fighting and playing at such a good level.”

In Paddy Madden and James Hayter, Moore is rubbing shoulders with Championship experience and one of the hottest properties outside of the Premier League.
