The time has come for Yeovil Town to start repaying their supporters’ faith with points and victories, according to Joe Edwards.
The Glovers today return to Huish Park following the international break in search of their first Sky Bet Championship victory on home soil.
Impressive performances have not necessarily been rewarded with deserved results, leaving them second from bottom on goal difference ahead of the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion.
But versatile midfielder Edwards said the break allowed the squad to forget about their indifferent start and focus on the positives from the campaign to date.
He said it was now time for fans to have more reason for cheer after regularly backing their side and contributing to a home average attendance of more than 7,700.
Edwards said: “It’s been a long time without a game and especially after a defeat when normally you want a game again straight away.
“We’re really looking forward to the Brighton game now and hopefully getting our first home win. The break gives you time away from football so you can concentrate on other things for a bit, whilst hopefully refreshing your brain.
“That’s what happened and we certainly feel refreshed for the game and are able to put everything that has happened behind us.
“Everyone can see that we’ve been playing well, with only the odd game – like Middlesbrough – sticking out. We’ve played well so the boys are confident and now we hope results will start coming.
“The fans have been brilliant and that’s why I love playing at Yeovil because it’s a family club and everybody gets on.
“There have been 8-9,000 at almost every home game but we haven’t got a point there yet so we’ve got a lot to thank them for and we have got to hope they keep coming and keep supporting us as it means a lot to us. Hopefully the wins and the points will start coming.”
However, Edwards – who signed a contract extension earlier this season – added today’s visitors would be no pushovers.
“Brighton are a good Championship team and were close last season to promotion to the Premier League, so we will have a hard, tough game against them. But we’re looking forward to it, like we do every game in this league,” he said.
“We know every game will be tough and we know we have to work hard, otherwise we will be beaten.”
Whilst taking a break from Championship action, the Glovers have beaten both Toolstation Western League Radstock Town and Wincanton Town 8-0 in the Somerset Premier Cup and a friendly respectively.
Edwards said: “The manager thought it was a good idea for all of us to go down and get into that game mode.
“It wasn’t necessarily about the strength of opposition, it was still a game we had to win, like you would any other.
“It was good for a few of the boys’ confidence, for a few of them who haven’t scored. Hopefully that will give them confidence for the big games coming up. It’s all worthwhile and it did everyone good.”
