The 19-year-old becomes the Glovers’ 13th addition of the window and will offer versatility, also being able to operate at right-back.
Highly rated at the Vitality Stadium, the youngster earned a spot on the bench for the first team’s final Premier League match of the season against Leicester City last term.
With 16 minutes remaining, Eddie Howe rewarded Worthington with his debut – only the second Bournemouth Academy player to feature in the top flight.
Prior to making his Premier League bow, he spent time on loan at National League South side Eastbourne Borough in 2015/16 for his first taste of men’s football before returning to Bournemouth to be a mainstay in their Under-23s.
Impressive performances for the Young Cherries saw Worthington pen a new deal in January, with a loan move to Huish Park following his top flight debut last season.
Howe said: “He has a great attitude and wants to do well, wants to learn and has all the characteristics of a Bournemouth midfielder.”
Worthington travelled with the south coast club to their pre-season training in Marbella and played 18 minutes in the friendly at Huish Park.
He further strengthens Town’s midfield options.
“I have been monitoring Matt for some time now, so to see him break through and make his Premier League debut shows the quality and belief that Matt has.
“I would personally like to thank Bournemouth and Eddie Howe for allowing the deal to come to fruition,” boss Darren Way told YTFC.net.
