The Glovers reached the quarter-finals in last season’s competition, and began this year’s group stage with an impressive 3-1 win at Exeter City.
Chelsea Under-21s provide the opposition on Wednesday night and Way wants to put on a good display and replicate their 2016/17 form in the tournament.
“The Checkatrade Trophy is a tournament I’ve not been shy in supporting,” he said.
“For us, it gives the club a chance to play against Chelsea, whilst their players have the opportunity to experience matches in a first-team environment which wouldn’t ordinarily happen.
“I want to do well and it was the same last season. We got to the quarter-finals and I was very pleased with the success we had.
“Last season we scored 12 goals in this competition in front of our home supporters and we’ll be looking for the same against Chelsea.
“They have a host of young talent and represent a different challenge, especially in terms of tactics. It’s up to us to combat that and put on a performance in front of our fans.”
Way added: “It’s important we take it seriously and we’ve made sure everyone is focused and ready for the fixture.
“We want to win every game we play in as it helps build momentum and confidence amongst the young squad we have.
“We have a squad of 20 players and it’s vital everyone is at their best throughout this busy period for us to progress.”
