The Glovers went ahead against the young Blues when Rhys Browne diverted Sam Surridge’s header into the corner, before Luke McCormick restored parity and ensured the visitors left with at least a point.
A second point was up for grabs for the winner of a penalty shootout and Town won 5-3 to all but put themselves into the knockout stage of the competition.
“It was a good performance from start to finish,” he told iFollow Glovers.
“I thought my players put into practice what we’ve been working on in the training ground.
“We knew if our press wasn’t right they would play through us, which they did on one occasion and the finish was excellent.
“The way we pressed against technically very, very good players was a really big achievement for our players.”
Town’s extra point on the night was awarded after winning the penalty shootout which ensued following the draw in normal time.
Alefe Santos, Surridge, Otis Khan, Olufela Olomola and Francois Zoko all dispatched their spot-kicks with aplomb, while Artur Krysiak saved from McCormick.
“To finish the penalties with the technical ability we did was very pleasing,” Way said.
“One or two have been working on them really hard and a special mention has to go to Steve (Phillips) for his attention to detail with Artur; that was magnificent.”
