Yeovil Town’s 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has earned the Glovers more than just bragging rights, after they were crowned as the trophy’s team of the round.
Yeovil’s dominant away performance has been chosen as the best showing of the entire round and manager Gary Johnson can now look forward to a piece of silverware, which will be presented before his team’s clash with Sheffield United on September 22.
Two Ed Upson free kicks and a late Sam Foley goal was enough to dump 2006 finalists Bristol Rovers out of the trophy and the Somerset men’s victory now paves the way for another away-day in the competition, this time at Torquay United.
Yeovil manager Gary Johnson said: “It is always nice to receive recognition for a good performance so I’m delighted to hear we have won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s team of the round honour.
“The trophy is a competition we would love to do well in, so hopeful this silverware will act as a good omen for some memorable days to come.”
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Paul Farrell said: “We thought Yeovil’s victory, and the manner of it, was worthy of our team of the round award.
“Gary Johnson’s men have made a great start to life in League One and wish team all the best for round two, when they face another tough test away from home.”
With 39 goals flying into the back on the net during the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, it is fair to say that our Ultimate Finish competition is well and truly back!
