Gillingham League Preview

Yeovil Town are back in Sky Bet League One action this Saturday and it’s the Glovers’ first trip away from Huish Park as they travel to play Gillingham.

The Gills were only in Somerset this past Tuesday for the Capital One Cup first round fixture, in which the Kent side picked up a 2-1 win and progressed into round two.

So, revenge is on the cards for Yeovil who will want to put things right with league points at stake.

Both sides made changes for the cup game and reverting back to a full strength side might be on the cards for both managers.

For Yeovil, one change forced upon Gary Johnson is at full back.

The Glovers have decided against appealing Seth Nana’s red card from Tuesday night due to dodgy camera angles blocking the evidence so he’ll be suspended for the next three fixtures.

Brendan Moloney will be in pole position to return to the starting eleven.

Another selection headache that Johnson will have to get around is picking a long term number one goalkeeper.

Following errors from both Chris Weale and Artur Krysiak that lead to goals in their games, Johnson will need to keep their confidence high and pick one or the other to wear the gloves.

Kevin Dawson and Joel Grant both edge closer to fitness but Liam Davis is still set to be out with a broken wrist.

Another man who won’t be available is Marvin Elliot; he remains on trial with the club with Gary Johnson giving the former Bristol City man as long as possible to prove his fitness.

As for Gillingham, they too have Goalkeeper issues. Glen Morris played against Yeovil on Tuesday and he’ll keep his place after first choice stopper Stuart Nelson was ruled out for a number of months with an injured thumb.

Both sides are yet to get their league points tally off and running, but by the time the full time whistle blows on Saturday one or both with have ditched the ‘0’ in the points column.

Tuesday’s fixture between the two sides was the first meeting since the 2009/10 season.

That year saw a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 Gillingham win, so the recent form is with the side in blue.

The last Yeovil win was way back in November 2007, I can’t help but think we are well overdue a win.

For Glovers fans making the journey, tickets are available on the day.

Adults will get in for £21 with concessions at different rates for different ages.

If you’re not making the journey, you can keep up to date with Glovers Player or through any one of the club’s social networks with highlights and interviews hitting YouTube as quickly as the media team can upload them.

Did you know: The “G” in Gillingham is pronounced like a “J” due to old texts that refer to the town as Jillyingham… unlike our closer Dorset counterpart where the “G” is pronounced like a fish’s gill.
